The Garage
Fueling an interactive experience for
car lovers of all ages
As museum experiences continue to evolve, it has become clear these spaces need to do more than memorialize; they need to engage with viewers in innovative and captivating ways. Enter The Garage, a world-class auto museum in Salina, Kansas. The Garage features a rotating collection of classic and custom cars stored in 40,000 square feet of renovated warehouse space. While the museum’s collection speaks for itself, stakeholders were looking for a strategy to elevate the visitor experience. DI answered this challenge by installing digital kiosks, screens and a game unit – features that breathe new life into the storied space.
Experiences were strategically placed throughout the museum, integrating seamlessly with the building's industrial, auto-inspired theme. “Fueling Station” information kiosks were mounted on retired gas pumps to create unique digital displays that add to, rather than distract from, the existing exhibits. Aluminum screens and accompanying projectors create an ambient backdrop for the gallery spaces. Lastly, the “Turbo Trivia Tower,” which features a similarly industrial, “body-shop-inspired” design, invites visitors to compete against each other in historical and automotive digital quizzes. These additions make the space more educational and engaging without sacrificing the Garage’s small-town character.
