Bus rapid transit (BRT) stations are one of the most common projects we work on. BRT shelters, like those we created for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority in conjunction with HNTB Architects. The 20 bus shelters were created use tempered glass from Starfire™ and steel to help protect riders as they wait for the buses to arrive. The real-time kiosks alert riders to the exact times the bus will arrive. These BRT shelters also feature bright LED lights, making the areas well-lit and safer for all riders.
We have completed similar BRT projects in Omaha and Tulsa, as well. Both of these projects include large, branded pylons that stick out among the rest of the streetscape. In Tulsa, we implemented covered shelters, bike racks, and real-time arrival signs that help keep riders on schedule. The Omaha BRT project included 24 station canopies and pillar signs that are located throughout the metro area. We also added lighting, security cameras, and emergency phones to the canopies, and real-time notifications keep riders well-informed about bus arrival times.
