Kung-Fu, Cocktails and Cinema inside a
dojo experience unlike any other
Alamo Drafthouse is known for giving movie-goers a one-of-a-kind, immersive cinema experience from the big screen and beyond. After creating an out-of-this-world space that mirrors elements of the renowned Star Wars trilogy, Alamo Drafthouse turned to DI once again – this time to provide a remarkable, wow moment inside their newest theater in Staten Island, NY.
Inspired by the action-packed world of kung-fu cinema, the Flying Guillotine invites guests to explore the rich history of martial arts and enjoy a punchy pre-show cocktail.
Working alongside Wu-Tang Clan founder RZA and Weiss Architecture, DI was responsible for designing, engineering, fabricating and installing the space’s infamous, can’t-miss namesake – a 12 ft.-wide flying guillotine that hovers from the ceiling, ideated in honor of the 1970s kung-fu classic, Master of the Flying Guillotine.

Below the massive (prop) guillotine, our team also created a karate-chop photo op, giving all visitors the opportunity to channel their inner black-belt warrior. In addition to design assist efforts, DI fabricated mini guillotine blades that line the suspended light fixtures to complement the space’s fierce interior.
This legendary, Wu-Tang-inspired experience puts visitors inside the dojo for a kung-fu exhibition they’ll never forget.
