Children’s Health of Orange County

A beloved pastime reimagined through

touchless technology

With positive distractions and accessibility in mind, DI teamed up with Children's Health of Orange County (CHOC) to design and implement an interactive coloring wall inside the newly opened CHOC Heart Institute.

Located inside the main lobby entrance, the hands-free digital addition offers children a fun and engaging activity while they wait for their appointment. As artists wave their hands in front of the screen, color fills the displays through motion-tracking technology. The backgrounds include animations and illustrations custom to CHOC, even featuring their beloved mascot, Choco Bear.

We worked alongside CHOC to ensure the digital coloring wall was entertaining and easy to use but not so overly gamified that kids couldn’t easily step away when it came time for their appointments. The screen is also multi-functional, allowing staff to share announcements or relevant news and events.
