Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
Telling the story of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta through
innovative design for health and heart
As the only freestanding pediatric healthcare system in Georgia and one of the largest pediatric clinical care providers in the country, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Children’s) strives to provide exceptional care and a consistently positive patient experience. Part of creating that experience is offering an environment that embraces and engages patients and families from the moment they enter. Dimensional Innovations had the opportunity to help make that environment a reality inside the newly built Arthur M. Blank Hospital through custom experience design, custom art pieces and innovative donor recognition.
DONOR RECOGNITION
DI was responsible for four interactive donor recognition installations. The first is an ode to Arthur Blank, whose family foundation generously donated $200 million in support of the new hospital. To help commemorate his lasting impact, DI created a floor-to-ceiling graphic of Mr. Blank and a 47-foot-long LED screen that uses written content and imagery to illustrate his life and legacy.
The next installation honors influential donors through an expansive LED display. Donor names appear gently and ripple across the 20x10 foot screen in an ambient, water-themed backdrop. After scanning a QR code at the installation, visitors can search for any donor who made a gift to the new hospital. Once selected, the donor’s name appears on a smaller circular display before appearing on the main display. This elegant and peaceful installation is our take on a traditional donor recognition wall.
100+
donations in its first 90 days
The third donor installation is a cutting-edge digital display that invites real-time donations through a unique, interactive approach. A large-scale LED screen features a living landscape full of customized animals that are brought to life through live donations. Visitors scan a QR code to make a special contribution to adopt a woodland animal which will appear in the digital forest wall inside the hospital for patients and families to enjoy. Custom animals appear on this nearly 18x8 foot screen, where they roam the landscape and interact with fellow creatures. In its first 90 days, Children's received more than 100 donations from this installation - an astounding feat considering the wall is not located in a high-traffic area.
After a visitor donates and releases their animal on the screen, it lives in the digital environment until new animals are created. Returning donors can scan the QR code to find their existing animal and relaunch it onto the screen. Going beyond the traditional approach of donor recognition, this forward-thinking interactive display is designed to offer a simple yet fun way to engage visitors while increasing smaller in-time donations and growing Children’s donor database.
The final installation highlights the nationally recognized Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. An LED screen in the unit lobby showcases names of the key donors who make the Center’s life-changing and life-saving programs possible.
All of these donor recognition installations were thoughtfully designed and executed to complement the existing space. Our team engineered a variety of curved wall coverings to ensure the LED screens fit seamlessly into the building’s architecture.
ENVIRONMENTAL GRAPHIC DESIGN
When creating the environmental design package for Children’s, we knew it needed to be youthful, cohesive, and scalable to complement the hospital’s floors. Our team took design inspiration from the Children’s brand and Georgia’s diverse landscape to fill the walls and empty spaces with vibrant graphics and soothing scenery. In addition to over a thousand unique graphics, DI helped create supplemental art pieces.
From the Blue Ridge mountains to animal-filled Piedmont forests, the designs bring a cohesive and playful essence throughout the entirety of Arthur M. Blank Hospital. DI’s turnkey process allowed us to collaborate alongside hospital stakeholders to create a comprehensive yet multifaceted design package that is equipped for large-scale implementation and consistent branding.
DI also created installations within the hospital to showcase the rich history of Children’s, Egleston Hospital’s legacy, and the people who made it all possible. In addition to installing encased artifacts from the previous campus, our team created a touchscreen kiosk where visitors can explore more history of Children’s and its impact, as well as additional donor names.
With custom environmental graphic design and innovative donor recognition, Dimensional Innovations worked to create a cohesive and interactive space that reflects the hospital’s commitment to care and community. The space paves the way for future support, all while helping pediatric patients feel welcomed, inspired, and seen.
