Where patient experience
can have a profound impact on patient healing
When it comes to reducing wait times at the doctor’s office, healthcare professionals are constantly searching for ways to improve the experience for both patients and their families. With blank canvases in the first- and second-floor lobbies, Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital came to Dimensional Innovations with a challenge: develop a new interactive waiting experience. While helping to pass the time, the installation also needed to remain flexible enough to accommodate patients once they were called in for their appointment, so they would not feel they were missing out on an exciting ending.
Challenge: Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital needed an environment that felt welcoming, comforting, and intuitive for young patients and their families. The challenge was to create a cohesive visual identity that reduced stress, supported wayfinding, and brought moments of joy into clinical spaces—without overwhelming the hospital’s calm, healing atmosphere. Dimensional Innovations was tasked with designing experiential graphics and donor recognition elements that would elevate the patient experience while honoring the generosity of the hospital’s supporters.
Solution: Dimensional Innovations partnered with Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital to design and implement a full experiential branding system that brings warmth and comfort to the facility. Soft color palettes, playful illustrations, and child‑friendly graphics create a calming atmosphere that helps reduce anxiety for young patients.
Dimensional Innovations also developed a donor recognition program that honors contributions at multiple levels and integrates seamlessly into the hospital’s architecture. Sculptural elements, layered materials, and thoughtful typography create a sense of gratitude without disrupting the clinical environment. Together, these elements form a cohesive visual language that supports healing, enhances navigation, and reflects the compassionate mission of Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital.

Dimensional Innovations collaborated with renowned Danish artist Per Arnoldi to develop an interactive installation that complements his color‑driven signage and wayfinding system throughout the new Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital. Using gesture‑tracking technology paired with high‑end Barco displays, the experience maintains vivid color and clarity even in bright natural light—creating an engaging, touch‑free interaction that supports infection‑control standards.
Designed with clinical sensitivity in mind, the installation encourages children to slow down, make intentional movements, and engage with the space in a calming, controlled way. This balance of playfulness and tranquility helps reduce overstimulation while offering a positive distraction during stressful moments. Dimensional Innovations worked closely with Turner Construction and HKS Architects to ensure the installation integrated seamlessly into the hospital’s architecture, resulting in a thoughtful, art‑driven experience that enhances the environment without overwhelming it.
