Children’s Wisconsin
Positive Distractions
in Pediatrics
Creating an inviting, playful and engaging environment inside pediatric settings not only improves the care experience for patients and their families but gives hospitals an opportunity to uniquely recognize influential donors. Looking to incorporate a positive distraction element and recognize key donors, Children’s Wisconsin turned to Dimensional Innovations in collaboration with architect Cannon Design to create three tailor-made digital interactives inside the first floor of their North Tower.
Visitors are greeted by the custom “Donor Wall Bookshelf” upon entry. Imitation books are stacked across the wood panel to highlight top-tier donors. The fabricated bookshelf is accompanied by an inset monitor with a custom application that allows staff to select and feature volunteers, additional donors or time-sensitive announcements.
Next to the welcome desk is a larger-than-life “Magic Story Book” where visitors can participate in a digital coloring experience. The oversized comic book-style layout illustrates a variety of regionally inspired scenes, where visitors can “color” the pages by waving their hands using DI’s motion-tracking technology. The screens will automatically transition to a new image for tiny artists to enjoy.
The third element is the “Let Your Dreams Soar” experience. This virtual journey invites visitors to create a customized digital paper airplane using vibrant colors and creative patterns illustrated by local children.
Participants can write a personalized message inside the plane and send it to friends or family via text or email. Once finished, participants release their message-filled planes into the cyber sky. Fellow visitors can “catch” released airplanes to read heartwarming messages others have sent. Check out the video above featuring real messages sent through the “Let Your Dreams Soar'' experience. Please note patient names have been omitted for privacy reasons.
Each with its own creative allure, these three digital interactives help cultivate a vibrant and warm pediatric space, engaging all visitors and honoring those who help support Children’s Wisconsin’s community-driven mission.
