CreatureVerse
CreatureVerse
Explore fantastical worlds through your
custom-designed Creatureverse avatar.
CreatureVerse is a customizable gamified experience platform that allows users to create unique personalized avatars that interact within a virtual environment. Concepted initially under the name ‘Wilderverse’ for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, the platform was a means to invoke positive distractions for adolescent patients while tempering the stresses of infusion treatments. CreatureVerse features fantastical landscapes and a spectrum of whimsical characters for kids and adults alike to create their individual avatar within the designed physical space.
Combining a base software platform with a user-friendly web browser application, CreatureVerse is an adaptable system that helps brands and organizations create engaging, educational, and entertaining digital experiences, all while putting audiences in the driver’s seat. Moving beyond simple avatar customization, CreatureVerse allows these avatars to explore unique environments, engage in mini-games, and experience a whole new universe.
Customizable creatures living in a unique virtual environment. Users can select from a range of available creatures and can change the color and features of the creature. What’s so special about this gamified experience is that the environment and creature(s) are able to reflect and adapt to the surroundings of their location.
Case Study: Connecticut Children's Medical Center
Connecticut Children’s Medical Center worked with DI and in partnership with Tecton Architects to help bring their Infusion Room to life by creating a unique digital experience to complement their renovated space and act as a positive distraction.
Surrounded by a breathtaking, outdoor-themed space, infusion patients are able to participate in the “Wilderverse” — a hospital distraction that allows users to interact with a gamified experience on a phone or tablet to create a custom avatar that explores a virtual outdoor world visible on multiple, curved digital OLED displays in the center of the treatment area.
The design incorporates nature settings, including a campfire, castle, waterfall, large flower pods, and a ship scene. Patients choose from three custom-created avatars (a gerbit, fantasy horse, or treebot) and customize their features. Depending on how the patient is feeling, they can keep their curtain open to see the large displays in the center of the facility, or if they need more privacy, they can still view the experience on the monitor within their room.
Case Study: Zoo Knoxville
Zoo Knoxville selected Dimensional Innovations to design and fabricate their brand-new Amphibian and Reptile Center (ARC). The center opened to the public to critical acclaim in April of 2021.
With the themes of Conservation, Beauty, Stewardship, and Discovery as the leading ideals, the ARC features an all-custom interactive exhibit that brings out the animals' personality, fun, and mystery while educating on their function in, and importance to, our world.
Interactive experiences include: 1) the “Croakers” frog lifecycle game, in which visitors start as a tadpole and try to make it to frog-hood before they croak; 2) the hands-on Snake Table that allows them to see with infrared snake vision, handle oversized snake jaws to see how they hinge and animate the ways different snakes move; and 3) the Create-a-Herp immersive theater, a curved, 270-degree immersive space where visitors can create their own “herp” creature and set it free in one of three different environments: forest, river, or desert, to see how it fares in the wild.
