Kansas City International Airport set out to create a more unified, tech‑forward check‑in experience for every airline operating inside the new terminal. Dimensional Innovations designed and integrated a 300‑foot NanoLumens LED display that delivers flexible, brand‑specific content while maintaining a cohesive visual system across the concourse. Through a real‑time content management system, airlines can independently update messaging under KCAD oversight—ensuring clarity, consistency, and rapid adaptability as carriers rotate in and out of the terminal. The result is a streamlined, intuitive check‑in environment shaped through Airport and Transit Experience Design and Immersive Technology.

Rooted in History, Culture, and Innovation

At the center of the terminal, the Kansas City International Airport Historical Aviation Exhibit celebrates the region’s aviation legacy through more than 400 images, videos, graphics, and first‑hand stories. Dimensional Innovations collaborated with local historians, cultural organizations, and tribal partners to ensure the exhibit is accurate, inclusive, and reflective of the diverse communities connected to the airport’s past. Interactive touchscreens allow visitors to explore content at their own pace, creating an engaging, educational moment shaped through Environmental Design and community‑driven storytelling.

The Retail Experience 

To highlight Kansas City’s local flavor, the terminal features dozens of homegrown restaurants, shops, and nonprofits. Dimensional Innovations partnered with Vantage Airport Group, OHM, and MRG to deliver blade signage, digital interactives, and branded moments that bring each tenant’s story to life. A heart‑shaped infinity mirror and AR filter welcome visitors to the Variety KC playground, a 14‑foot interactive piano pays tribute to the city’s jazz heritage, and a suspended 20‑by‑5‑foot “Our Home, Kansas City” book graphic anchors the Turn the Page KC storefront. These elements elevate the terminal’s sense of place through Premium Guest Experiences and community‑centered design.

Dimensional Innovations designed and installed a digital kiosk in the arrivals hall to support ground transportation, wayfinding, and local messaging. As the official sponsor of the baggage claim concourse, Children’s Mercy Kansas City partnered with Dimensional Innovations to create a sculptural overhead installation featuring 300 colorful “paper” airplanes—an artistic, mission‑driven moment that doubles as a visual wayfinding cue. These elements reinforce the airport’s commitment to clarity, accessibility, and a welcoming first impression through integrated Signage and Wayfinding Systems and experiential design.
