Reimagining First Impressions: H&R Block’s Headquarters Transformation

The Challenge: How do you help a historic tax company transition from the comfort of its legacy into the energy of a modern, consumer-facing brand? For decades, H&R Block has been a household name—anchored by its foundation of trust, reliability and community presence. But as the brand looked toward the future, they wanted to ensure their physical spaces reflected that evolution.

The headquarters lobby, a central artery welcoming 20,000 visitors a day, had long served as a functional entry point. Yet it lacked the spark to communicate the company’s growing focus on innovation, talent attraction and human connection. H&R Block enlisted DI to transform this first impression into an expression of who they are today—and who they aspire to be tomorrow.

Crafting the Solution: Working closely with top-level stakeholders, DI’s design team set out to create a space that could bridge H&R Block’s legacy with its future. At the heart of the approach was the brand’s historic green cube—an icon synonymous with trust and recognition—reimagined in an inviting and contemporary language.

DI purposely blurred the lines between corporate branding and immersive experience, introducing larger-than-life brand elements, striking lighting features and tactile textures. The design extended beyond the lobby itself, leading to a path used daily by employees and visitors, ensuring the new environment was not just a destination but an integrated part of the building’s daily cadence.

In a city that proudly claims H&R Block as one of its own, the refreshed space serves as both a brand beacon and a Kansas City landmark. With approximately 11,000 retail offices nationwide and campaigns recognized across the country, the new lobby does more than greet visitors—it underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation, growth and community impact.

With a unique background that spans multiple roles, Brandon tries to approach each partnership with a specific emphasis on establishing long-term relationships for the betterment of all parties. He constantly works to align capabilities and client needs to identify key areas of opportunities for sustainable success.

As Corporate and Healthcare Practice Director, Brandon’s focus is two-fold: collaborating with firms to elevate their spaces into modern, branded environments that make lasting impressions with their employees, visitors, and clients; and working with healthcare facilities to help create engaging and soothing environments that promote positive distractions and health-focused benefits.

Brandon graduated from the University of Kansas in 2013 with a BS in Marketing. Outside of the DI office, when not working to create remarkable experiences for his clients, Brandon can often be found at his favorite sports experience - watching the Kansas Jayhawks play at Allen Fieldhouse.

Chad Hutson has forged a notable career leading teams of creative & technology professionals, building the trust of clients & partners, and helping to transform physical spaces into exceptional experiences for some of the most recognized brands and entertainers in the world.

At Dimensional Innovations, Chad serves as Chief Strategy Officer, where he works across the experience design, build and technology team’s multiple practice areas to bolster digital innovation within physical spaces for its diverse clientele.

Formerly, as co-founder and CEO of specialized creative agency Leviathan, Chad led overall operations, business development and strategy for the organization, which was acquired by digital consultancy Envoy in 2017. His efforts fostered client relationships with Nike, Disney, Amazon, T-Mobile, FedEx, Universal, McDonald’s and Airbus among others, as well as recognition for the agency’s work by Wired, Fast Company, Forbes, Communication Arts, the FWA, Event Marketer, the One Show and more.

Prior to Leviathan, Chad co-founded and led digital agency eatdrink in 2002; managed creative technology projects for experiential marketing firm MC2; and handled operations for audiovisual company Soundelux Showorks; all of which helped shape a balance of leading both business and creative initiatives across a span of multiple decades.
