The Situation Room Experience

STEP INTO THE CORE OF

WHITE HOUSE CRISIS MANAGEMENT

The Situation Room Experience at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum offers a hyper-realistic simulation where visitors must work together to strategize, de-escalate and facilitate communication amidst a high-stakes government crisis–like a presidential assassination attempt or large-scale wildfire. Since opening in 2016, The Situation Room Experience has been a hands-on educational opportunity for student field trips, corporate team building, college groups and more. However, the space’s technology elements were not integrated or streamlined for a seamless user experience.

Presidential Library and Museum stakeholders called upon DI to create a more flexible and intuitive role-playing expedition to help elevate and optimize the space. As a result, our team designed, developed and integrated a customized authoring system that allows museum staff to create additional dynamic crisis scenarios while efficiently controlling the experience in real-time–capabilities they did not have with the prior system.

Up to 60 players can participate, each with their own role ranging from high-profile government positions to global media outlets. Each visitor has a tablet where they collect resources, manage communications and ultimately drive crisis control efforts based on their role. Our team worked at great lengths to ensure the complex hardware suites and backend systems were fully integrated and user-friendly for visitors and museum staff. A once cumbersome and rigid system that museum staff struggled to operate has been replaced with a sleek, intuitive platform that allows total control over the experience’s internal technology and crisis scenarios.

Prior to the system overhaul, all visitors had to be onsite to participate. Thanks to the new web-based software, the experience can go beyond the physical room to include remote participants if necessary.

The Situation Room Experience gives visitors an immersive, high-energy glimpse of what it’s like to be inside one of the world’s most powerful rooms when crisis strikes – an opportunity made possible through Library expertise, technology integration and intuitive content management solutions.
