Dane G. Hansen Museum

Hansen Museum

The museum is our pride. We're very proud of it

and the difference it has made to the people of Logan and their lives.

Linda Toll, Board Member, Dane G. Hansen Museum

The Hansen Museum is a little-known, hidden jewel in the middle of the western Kansas prairie. Named for its founder, Dane G. Hansen, the museum hosts some of the nation’s top traveling shows from around the country, showcasing work ranging from talented regional artists and artisans to widely acclaimed Smithsonian Institution touring exhibitions. The museum's mission is to continue Mr. Hansen's legacy and his deep passion for bringing art, culture, and education to the communities of western Kansas.

1972

Year that the museum's location was completed and dedicated to the City of Logan

DI was selected to fully renovate their entire 7,500-square-foot museum space, including the permanent exhibit, touring exhibit space, bustling community room, and administrative/office spaces. The renovation also included several outdoor elements, including museum signage and a full-scale replica of a “stretch” prairie schooner on the museum grounds that younger visitors can climb into and explore. DI teamed with General Contracting partner DI Build to seamlessly carry out the entire renovation from the first concept drawing to the final nail in the wall.

In order to preserve and better tell the story of Mr. Hansen, his family, and the remarkably rich history of the town of Logan, KS, DI worked closely with museum board members and staff to re-conceptualize and redesign the permanent exhibit from the ground up. The space was reorganized to better suit the stories, which were thoroughly researched and presented in several layers to appeal to many audience types. Hundreds of artifacts were documented and reconfigured for a more compelling display and better story continuity.  Understated digital technology stations were added where appropriate to provide depth of information for the visitors who desire it, while keeping the feel of the museum elegant and timeless.

Testimonials

"DI was instrumental in the entire process guiding us through every step of the project from concept to implementation. They were responsible for the design of all exhibit spaces, engineering and manufacturing of artifact cases, and labels. DI demonstrated professionalism, efficiency, and timeliness without compromising quality."

Shari Buss, Director

"Throughout the project, communication was effective – DI team members were great listeners. Prompt attention was given to each of our questions, and they took the time to understand our goals and intentions. Above all, adherence to budget and schedules were the rule rather than the exception. It has been a true pleasure working with the entire DI team."
