Jumping Into a Legend
Challenge: For the Evel Knievel Museum, the goal was to create an environment where visitors wouldn’t just learn about Evel, but would come away with a real sense of how he lived. Re-creating a larger-than-life legacy meant telling Evel’s story in a format that felt immersive, true to his spirit and exciting enough to match the energy of his most legendary stunts. Authenticity was essential, especially when bringing one of his greatest jumps to life — a ramp jump over 16 police cars.

Solution: At the heart of the museum is a 4D virtual reality jump and a series of interactive displays designed to make Evel’s legacy feel vivid and immediate. To make the VR experience as authentic as possible, DI’s innovation team re-created one of Evel’s most iconic stunts: a high-speed motorcycle jump over a barricade of 16 police vehicles.
Using 360-degree video footage of Doug Danger, paired with a VR headset, a replica 1974 Enduro Harley, rumble effects and wind machines, DI created an experience that lets fans do more than watch Evel’s story unfold — they can feel like they’re living it. The museum also contains injury-explorer interactives and a remarkable collection of artifacts, including six of Knievel’s bikes, more than a dozen original leather costumes, helmets, fan letters, X-rays, photos and his custom-built 1974 Mack Truck, “Big Red.”
