CPKC Stadium
“
This is something that will change the world of women's soccer.
This is the beginning of change.
Vlatko Andonovski, KC Current Head Coach (via ESPN)
The Kansas City Current is making historic waves in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and professional sports at large–and our team was honored to have an ongoing role in this game-changing movement.
As the world’s first purpose-built, women’s professional sports stadium, CPKC Stadium was ideated and privately funded by KC Current leadership and designed, engineered and built by various women-led teams*, including Generator Studio, Monarch Build, JE Dunn, Henderson Engineers and DI–all local to Kansas City. Since its opening, CPKC Stadium was named one of the TIME's World's Greatest Places of 2024.
A SERIES OF FIRSTS
After helping bring to life the KC Current’s team headquarters and training complex–also the first-of-its-kind for women’s professional sports–DI became highly familiar with the brand visual identity package developed by Willoughby Design. Helping bring to life KC Current branding inside the training complex equipped our team to efficiently and cohesively translate and integrate design elements into the new stadium.
From branded wall graphics and concessional signage to dimensional signage and a backlit, color-changing crest hovering above the home team locker room, DI worked alongside ownership and Willoughby Design as a brand guardian to ensure all graphics and design elements told a compelling and cohesive story while flowing seamlessly from entry to exit.
SIGNAGE + WAYFINDING
Our team established a signage and wayfinding package that was strategic, intuitive, and complementary to the KC Current brand and the stadium’s overall look and feel. Holistic signage and wayfinding efforts included all regulatory signage, stadium sections and seating, overhead directionals, and five pylons that serve as additional directories. The overhead signage and pylons include removable slats, allowing the signage to evolve and update in light of future sponsors and potential stadium expansion.
Inclusivity and accessibility were of utmost importance to the ownership group; therefore, DI also created and installed signage for the sensory and specialty rooms designed for those with disabilities and brought to the stadium by VarietyKC and the Olivia Bloomfield Foundation, which is a nonprofit that advocates for accessibility, inclusion and representation for those with disabilities.
SPONSORSHIP ACTIVATIONS
Acquiring sponsorships is a fundamental component of any stadium or large-scale venue development. Aiming to help CPKC Stadium ownership build interest and secure influential sponsorships, DI invited potential sponsors to come and experience the stadium’s footprint before it was even built. A 180° digital model shown inside DI’s Immersive Theater allowed prospective sponsors to get a genuine feel for the overall footprint, which helped them better see the vision and ultimately become a part of this trailblazing initiative.
When it came time to design and integrate sponsorship signage and activations within the stadium, DI worked in tandem with ownership and sponsors to ensure their brand was accurately and uniquely represented while remaining consistent with team branding throughout the space.
BY WOMEN, FOR WOMEN
From the beginning, ownership’s intentions regarding CPKC Stadium were clear: this was to be a forward-thinking, accessible and inclusive space development largely by Kansas City female leadership.
DI and our women-led project team are honored and elated to have a hand in this historic victory–as women, as Kansas Citians and as experts in experience design.

Testimonials
[CPKC Stadium] is so much more than I expected. We've been saying if you build it they will come, internally. Then coming here and actually seeing what it means to actually invest in brick-and-mortar physical infrastructure; it's a game-changer.
