University of Connecticut Hall of Champions

University of Connecticut Logo

There is no better college basketball tradition in the country,

and we needed to have a representation of that."

David Benedict, Director of Athletics, University of Connecticut

With the opening of the Werth Family Basketball Center at The University of Connecticut, DI was presented with the opportunity to design and build a space where the school’s history of excellence could be celebrated and shared among fans, employees, and athletes. Ranging from interactive learning components to trophy displays, the project was to serve as a “reminder to our players what the standards are at UConn—competing and playing like a champion.” —Dan Hurley, Men’s Basketball Head Coach, UConn

weeks of dedicated installation to create a remarkable experience for fans, donors, alumni, coaches, and student-athletes.

The 75,000-plus square-foot athletic facility is one of the most ambitious projects taken on by the University. Featuring two separate wings for the men’s and women’s basketball programs, the building also includes a centralized common area for academic support, sports medicine, practice facilities, video analysis theaters, and strength training areas.

To complete this landmark facility, the DI team designed and built the Hall of Champions. Located in a visually-stunning lobby, it features a vitrine display of all NCAA trophies representing the four men’s championships and nine women’s titles. Technology is expertly weaved throughout the space using displays and touch screens, in addition to a photo opportunity for guests.

The DI team worked tirelessly to both design and install this incredible experience. Said Geno Auriemma, UConn Women’s Basketball Head Coach, “what was able to be accomplished in two weeks was really, really a feat of incredible commitment.”

Testimonials

"UConn Basketball has a tradition that is unmatched, and we sought a design that would reflect this success. DI utilized a combination of digital, static and light elements to create an impressive footprint to further tell our story."

Evan Feinglass, Associate Director of Athletics / Facilities Management & Planning

"These elements, along with the unique interactive digital displays helped our programs share and highlight their rich history. The DI team listened to our coaching staff and leadership, helping to take their visions forward to reality."

Evan Feinglass, Associate Director of Athletics / Facilities Management & Planning
