Where Champions Live: The UConn Werth Family Basketball Center
Challenge: For the University of Connecticut, the opening of the Werth Family Basketball Center created a need for a signature space that could clearly communicate the program’s championship legacy from the moment guests arrived. The client needed an experience that could engage multiple audiences—fans, staff, recruits, and athletes—while balancing storytelling, trophy presentation and interactive learning within a high-visibility lobby environment.

Storrs, ConnecticutSolution: The 75,000-plus-square-foot athletic facility is one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by the university. Featuring two separate wings for the men’s and women’s basketball programs, the building also includes a centralized common area for academic support, sports medicine, practice facilities, video analysis theaters and strength training areas.
"UConn Basketball has a tradition that is unmatched, and we sought a design that would reflect this success. DI utilized a combination of digital, static and light elements to create an impressive footprint to further tell our story."
– Evan Feinglass, Associate Director of Athletics / Facilities Management & Planning
To complete this landmark facility, the DI team designed and built the Hall of Champions. Located in a visually stunning lobby, it features a vitrine display of all NCAA trophies representing the four men’s championships and nine women’s titles. Technology is woven throughout the space through displays and touch screens, along with a dedicated photo moment for guests.
The DI team designed and installed the experience, delivering a high-impact environment on an accelerated timeline.
