A Fieldhouse Advantage
Challenge: At the University of Kansas, basketball is more than a sport. It’s a legacy, a recruiting tool and a source of pride for fans, players and alumni. KU Athletics wanted to build on that tradition inside Allen Fieldhouse by creating a more interactive experience for visitors while also modernizing the men’s basketball locker room in a way that reflected the prestige of the program. The goal was to make the story of Kansas basketball feel more engaging for fans and more meaningful for recruits and student-athletes.
Location
Lawrence, KansasSolution: DI helped KU bring that story to life in two connected spaces at Allen Fieldhouse: the basketball experience and the men’s basketball locker room.
Attached to Allen Fieldhouse, the Booth Hall of Fame was home to a KU basketball experience that had become more static than spirited. DI helped transform the space into a hands-on destination, adding interactive elements that invite fans and visitors to take a more active role in the story of Kansas basketball.
“Dimensional Innovations provided outstanding, fan-friendly interactives which have made the space come alive in so many ways.”
– Candace Dunback, Curator, Booth Hall of Fame
DI designed and fabricated a vertical jump interactive challenge and “be the announcer” station, giving visitors new ways to test their skills and connect with the energy of Kansas basketball. Touchscreen stations also allow fans to explore highlights, famous players and other digital content connected to KU’s website.
The space also supports KU’s recruiting efforts. DI produced displays and large-format graphics highlighting Jayhawks who went on to play in the NBA, helping show recruits the program’s history of developing elite talent.
DI also worked with the men’s basketball coaching staff to update the team’s locker room under a tight timeline. The coaching staff wanted the space to feel modern while still honoring the history and expectations that come with playing Kansas basketball. DI used environmental branding to make that legacy visible throughout the locker room. Sports Illustrated covers featuring former KU greats line the hallways, while large graphics and inspirational quotes bring energy into the space. Together, the basketball experience and locker room tell a fuller story of KU basketball at Allen Fieldhouse. One invites fans and recruits to interact with the program’s history. The other gives student-athletes a space built around culture and excellence.
