Las Vegas Raiders — Al Davis Memorial Torch

A Monument Built at Stadium Scale

Challenge: The Las Vegas Raiders envisioned a landmark inside Allegiant Stadium worthy of Al Davis and his lasting impact on the franchise. Standing more than nine stories tall with a complex sculptural form, the Al Davis Memorial Torch pushed beyond what traditional fabrication methods could efficiently achieve. DI worked alongside the Raiders and a multidisciplinary team to develop a way to bring the original concept to life at an unprecedented scale.

Solution: DI turned to large-scale additive manufacturing to create the torch's complex form with the precision the design required. Using a Large Scale Additive Manufacturing machine, the team produced 226 blocks from carbon fiber-reinforced polycarbonate composite. Each block was then machined on a five-axis router before becoming part of the finished structure.

The torch's metallic exterior is made up of 1,148 unique aluminum panels, each robotically painted to create a consistent reflective finish across the sculptural surface. From development and engineering through fabrication and installation, 18 DI employees dedicated nearly 50,000 hours to the memorial.

At 93 feet from base to tip, the finished Al Davis Memorial Torch became a defining feature of Allegiant Stadium and a permanent tribute to a figure whose influence helped shape the Raiders organization.
