Crafting the Solution: DI took the blank slate opportunity to bring a vision to life—strategically designing the overall layout and tour flow to guide visitors in the brand’s legacy from the moment they enter. Visitors are welcomed by an exclusively designed a 14-foot-high wooden tree structure—a striking centerpiece that not only conceals key structural columns, but guides the flow of the experience and serving as a sculptural nod to bourbon’s oak-barrel roots.

From the retail zone to tasting areas and the final gathering space, each step was purposefully designed to build a narrative. Inspired by bourbon's deep connection with oak, DI developed a custom palette that reflects the warmth of aged oak, charred barrels and the brand’s signature copper elements. Museum-quality cases immerse visitors in captivating stories about bourbon cocktails, production and the aging process.

An eye-catching oversized bourbon bottle, measuring over 7 feet in height, adds another layer of interactive education and visual intrigue. To highlight RD1’s discovery of unique wood from throughout the world, DI created a global reach map, depicting its hometown of Lexington and wood ties to the Ozarks and Appalachian region of the United States, as well as the central forests of France and Brazil.

By thoughtfully integrating specialty lighting, compelling storytelling and authentic bourbon tradition, RD1 Spirits’ new facility is an immersive, iconic destination. The new space not only accommodates growing visitor demand but also sets a new standard for innovation and excellence on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail™.
