Unleashing the Dragon
Art Meets Heritage in Gainesville
Seeking to create a unique public art piece that would honor the branding and heritage of its 30-year-long annual Dragon Boat Festival, The City of Gainesville, Georgia, teamed up with Dimensional Innovations and Confluence Design to create a dynamic, engaging sculptural statement piece that would draw visitors to the city's downtown area and provide a unique photo opportunity.
Our teams collaborated to realize an ambitious project: a 17-foot-tall dragon sculpture with a 24-foot body and 15-foot tail. Featuring dynamic lighting, illuminated eyes, smoke from its nostrils, and a roaring sound effect, the dragon captivates audiences. Built with an aluminum and steel frame and foam for complex shapes like the head, DI's skilled fabricators expertly handled the intricate curves and angles. Mounted on a raised platform with programmable lighting, the dragon will attract visitors year-round, celebrating the city's rich history colored by this Lake Lanier festival.
