The Challenge: The City of Gainesville, Georgia, wanted a public art piece that would do more than beautify a corner of downtown—it needed to celebrate culture and become a visual anchor for the community. With a 30-year tradition of hosting the Dragon Boat Festival, city leaders needed a symbol that honored the event’s legacy while drawing year-round visitors. The installation had to be bold enough to stop people in their tracks, interactive enough to invite engagement and meaningful enough to represent the spirit of Gainesville.

Crafting the Solution: To bring this vision to life, DI partnered with Confluence Design to create an unforgettable experience: a 17-foot-tall dragon perched on a raised pedestal, boasting a 24-foot body and a 15-foot tail. Its metal-and-foam construction creating stunning sculptural detail, while its glowing eyes, roaring sound effects and smoke-breathing nostrils created an immersive moment for passersby. Carefully positioned in the heart of downtown, the dragon blends storytelling and city pride. It's not just a nod to the Dragon Boat Festival—it’s a fire-breathing beacon of Gainesville’s creativity and community spirit.
