Designing and Building the Tap Ins at the Greenhouse Experience 


Challenge: Tap Ins at the Greenhouse wanted to build a destination in Overland Park, Kansas that proves mini golf can be elevated while remaining family friendly. Tap Ins set out to launch a new location-based entertainment brand with two 18-hole courses, a sports bar and a premium teaching lounge. Tap Ins courses were designed by Tom Watson Golf Course Design, the firm behind award-winning courses on three continents. The ask: define a content identity, design the guest experience and deliver signature family-friendly moments without losing the soul of real golf.

Solution: DI established a full brand identity from the client’s initial ideation, then translated it into a comprehensive signage and wayfinding system across exterior and interior touchpoints to guide guests from the check-in reception to the courses. The team designed and fabricated signature brand moments, including an illuminated ceiling-mounted beer tap at the check-in and a large-scale 12-foot beer tap photo opportunity.

 

The two 18-hole designs—an outdoor course inspired by the Midwest plains and an indoor course inside a climate-controlled greenhouse with an operable roof—enable year-round play. For each course, DI created a QR-based digital scoring experience that begins at the first tee and feeds the venue’s leaderboards—complete with group winner shoutouts including all-time winners.

DI also branded the bars, wall graphics and display moments that keeps the environment premium and golf-authentic. Strong brand standards and a scalable signage system give Tap Ins consistency across the venue, support efficient operations and make updates straightforward as seasons or programming changes.
